 Community Foundation for the Alleghenies:                                                             

The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies has introduced a new application process this year! This year, a new application platform as well as a new tool called the ELIGIBILITY QUIZ (EQ) will be available to ALL BISHOP McCORT STUDENTS. When students log in or create an account on our new scholarship application site, they will take the Eligibility Quiz to be matched with all of the awards they may be eligible to apply for. That means NO scholarship dollars are left on the table. Students can access our application portal on our website at CFA STUDENT LOGIN PAGE!

    Pete Duranko Scholarship Awards  

The Pete Duranko Scholarship Award provides a $1,000 scholarship to both a graduating male and female student from Bishop McCort High School of outstanding character and notable athletic achievement. Due:

 

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Participation in the Bishop McCort varsity athletic program.

2. Be hard-working and industrious -- individual need not be a straight A student, but should be working to his or her potential and God-given ability.

3. Have financial need.

4. Demonstrate values that have been taught throughout their time at Bishop McCort: school spirit, leadership, community service, and spirituality.

5. Student must be attending a college located within the state of Pennsylvania.

 
 

Steps to Apply for the College-Sponsored Academic Scholarships

College-Sponsored applications are open on a rolling basis.  Please select each scholarship to see when each one is open.

  1. Complete the College’s application for admission and submit your high school transcripts.
  2. Receive your acceptance letter with your computer account information, which includes your myPEAK username and password.
  3. Access and complete the online scholarship application and essay using your username and password. Because the scholarship system is integrated with student data, much of your information is stored in the application.
 

Steps to Apply for the College Foundation Scholarships

The Foundation scholarship application is available beginning April 1 and will close on May 15.   This application is for 19 different scholarships varying in qualifications and dollar amounts.  Students just need to complete an essay and the system will automatically put them in the scholarships they are qualified for; then they just need to answer a few questions for those scholarships.  Because many scholarships are based on a student’s registration status, students are advised to first register for the fall 2022 semester prior to completing the scholarship application.

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or FAFSA Renewal (School Code: 031804).
  2. Complete your course registration for the fall semester on myPEAK.
  3. Access the online scholarship application using your Penn Highlands’ computer (myPEAK) login and password.
  4. Complete your application, essay, and any additional questions for specific scholarships. Because the scholarship system is integrated with student data, much of your information is previously stored in your application.

The Bernie Matthews Opportunity Foundation Scholarship (DUE DATE TBA)

 
The Bernie Matthews Opportunity Foundation Scholarship seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity or other difficult life circumstances, strength of character, financial
need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society.
To be eligible to apply for the Bernie Matthews Opportunity Scholarship, applicants must meet the following
criteria:

1. Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation
in spring/summer semester with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following
graduation
2. Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit
public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then
transfer to a four-year institution)
3. Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
4. Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
5. Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity or other difficult life circumstances
6. Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5
7. Be a United States citizen

Alma Lodge #523 2023 Jacob Campbell Scholarship (DUE TBA)

Two $1000 scholarships open to all high school seniors who attend a Cambria County high school or high school seniors that are members of Alma Lodge #523 or have a parent/guardian/grandparent/aunt/uncle that is a member of Alma Lodge #523. All applicants must be attending an accredited post-secondary institution following high school. Requirements include a short essay and letter of recommendation.

Emily Lee Scholarship Program

$2,000 scholarship applications available to students who are accepted into a full time health related program at an accredited undergraduate college or university and demonstrate a level of financial need. Applicants must live in Cambria, Somerset, Bedford or Blair county.
 
Applications can be downloaded from the Lee Initiative website at www.leeinitiatives.com or via a hard copy in Guidance. All applications must be postmarked no later than TBD
 
 
 

Ligonier Valley Endowment Scholarship

One $4,000 awards available - to qualify the student must live in the Ligonier Valley School District and have a grade point average of at least 3.0. Scholarship guidelines and an application may be obtained at: www.ligoniervalleyendowment.org

R. K. Mellon Family Scholarship

Two $5,000 awards available - to qualify the student must live in the Ligonier Valley School District and have a grade point average of 3.5.  Scholarship guidelines and an application may be obtained at: www.ligoniervalleyendowment.org

Fireside Catholic Publishing

$1,000 reward based on an essay composed with the title, “How is your religious education influencing your life.” For details see the Guidance counselors (first come first serve basis for strong writers.)

Only one student per school may participate, all inquiries must go through the Guidance office.

Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Scholarship Fund

Students who have been employed at Member Clubs of Western Pennsylvania Golf Association for at least two seasons are eligible to apply. Scholarship is renewable for up to four years or until graduation, whichever is shorter.   Students must maintain a 2.8 GPA per term to continue receiving the scholarship. The total value is $16,000 over 4 years.

Horatio Alger Scholarship

Eligibility criteria include: high school graduation in spring/summer, demonstrated crucial financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree, involvement in co-curricular and community service activities, minimum GPA of 2.0, and United States citizenship.

AED Superstore Scholarship (NEXT DEADLINE:  

 

AED Superstore is a nationwide distributor of automated external defibrillators and related accessories dedicated to increasing awareness and education around CPR and AEDs. AED Superstore is located in northern Wisconsin and operates under Allied 100, LLC. AED Superstore is offering a bi-annual scholarship of $1,000 to eligible students.

Epilepsy Assocation of Western/Central PA Scholarships (DUE 

 

To be eligible for the EAWCP Scholarship, a person must: have a diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorder, provide proof of acceptance to a post-secondary academic or vocational program, be a recent high school graduate, attend school full-time, and be a legal resident of western/central Pennsylvania.

Young American Creative Patriotic Awards

 

Each year, more than 3,500 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest began in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth.

CAMBRIA COUNTY COORDINATING COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

 

The Cambria County Coordinating Council of The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) Central Western Region offers a Five Hundred Dollar Scholarship to a senior high school student in our region who intends to major in education. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist the student in their continued education at the college level.

Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs (ADDC) 

 

Students planning to pursue a four-year energy-related degree from a College or University, or those enrolled in a Trade or Vocational degree program at an accredited Western Pennsylvania school, to learn an industry-related skill or trade, may apply to receive one (1) of three (3) available Five Hundred Dollar ($500) scholarships.

The Catholic College Admission Association

 

The National CCAA annually offers the National CCAA Scholarship to college-bound high school seniors from various geographic regions attending one of the National CCAA member institutions in the fall. For Spring 2022, the National CCAA will award 16 one-time $1,000 awards.
