Beginning in August 2010, Bishop McCort Catholic High School contracted with a new food service provider, Metz & Associates, for our cafeteria services. Metz currently services several other schools in the area, and we are excited to have them here with us. Because Metz is a larger organization, they are able to provide our students with a greater variety of nutritious options each day at reasonable prices. They are committed to ensuring that school lunches meet the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These include that individuals:
· eat a variety of foods;
· choose a diet with a variety of grain products, vegetables, and fruits daily;
· choose a diet moderate in sugars and salt; and
· choose a diet with 30% or less of calories from fat and less than 10% of calories from saturated fat.
School lunches also need to provide, on average over each school week, at least one-third of the daily Recommended Dietary Allowances for protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories. Meal selection and portion size are all factored into these requirements.
The cafeteria handles no cash, so in order to purchase lunch, prepayment must be made to the Business Office or through MyNutriKids.com. By entering their student ID#, money is debited from your child’s account each time they buy lunch or food items. You can check on the account balance and also see exactly what your child is purchasing. (Click here for instructions on how to create a MyNutriKids.com account.)
Since there are so many more options than before, it is important to clarify what is offered and at what cost.
