Marianne Spampinato ’77 recently released her new book, Listen to Your Mother: A Baby Boomer’s Recollections of a Wonderfully Wise Mother, based on those familiar sayings we have all heard from our parents.
Following retirement from the American Red Cross in Johnstown in January 2015 after serving as communications manager for over 34 years, Spampinato has been working as a freelance correspondent and columnist for Our Town and Schurz Communications. A column she wrote for Our Town included some of her mother’s sayings and sparked her interest in writing the book. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and a master’s degree in Leadership and Liberal Studies at Duquesne. As an alumna, Spampinato can often be found helping to “Turn the Town Teal” with McCort students during September.
Autographed copies of her book are available at The Bottle Works on Third Avenue or at the Heritage Discovery Center, 201 6th Avenue, in Johnstown, as well as online at madeinsomersetcounty.com.
