The goal of the Travel Club is to engage the curiosity of students and enlighten them on subjects like history, politics, literature, art, science, and culture through travel to famous destinations.

The Travel Club is the brainchild of the Class of 2023, while they were 9th graders in Mr. Schellhammer's world history class. This class had a strong desire for experiencing the world in the textbook with their own eyes. Combined with Mr. Schellhammer's involvement and interest in world travel (having been to 8 foreign countries himself), the class of 2023 decided to plan a trip to Greece and Italy through Explorica Worldstrides Educational Tours.

You can join the Travel Club Destination Committee to decide on the trip we will plan for new destinations and new activities! If there is interest in a less expensive, shorter trip in the United States, or for a different time/trip altogether, then that can be discussed as well! I want to be responsive to students and their ideas for trip locations. If you have an idea, the best way to get students interested in going is to have the Travel Club spearhead the effort!

This trip was an amazing an awesome experience for all involved! We made new friends in Bianca, our tour director, and Franco, our respectful long haul bus driver in Italy. Caio Bella

The current plan of the Travel Club is to schedule trips 2 years in advance, to allow students from multiple grades a chance to participate and to limit the impact of the financial requirements to attend. So, for instance, the 2022 trip has mostly students from the 11th and 12th grade in 2022 -- some right after they graduated in 2022, others during the summer break between junior and senior year.

It is recommended that any travelers get the Travel Protection Plan Plus, but I only require the basic travel protection. Any travel restrictions or bans would result in the trip being rescheduled to a later date -- We do not expect COVID-19 to influence our future trips at all.
The Travel Club has held fundraisers in the past in order to defray the costs of the trip for those who choose to attend. If you are planning to travel with the Travel Club and want to do a fundraiser, see Mr. Schellhammer. We have had holiday (Christmas and Easter) chocolate sales in the past, but no one was interested in participating in 2023. We can schedule other fundraiser activities if the desire is there. This must be student led.
